Garden Designs for People with Dementia

Thursday November 16, 2006
Now is a good time to think about re-designing your garden to make it a more useful part of a treatment programme for people with Alzheimer's disease. Good garden planning can provide a safe area for exercise and the opportunity to relieve tension, frustration and aggression. Gardens and patio areas can give people with dementia a personal space for reflection and privacy and provide a different social environment. It's great to have somewhere else to go besides the four walls of your house. It gets depressing for someone with dementia and for their caregivers.

I offer some great ideas for garden walk plans, safety considerations, adaptations for wheel chair use, planting and the importance of color and fragrance. A place where people can enjoy life, that provides activities, exercise and relaxation. Good Garden Designs for People with Dementia
