When Fear Becomes Reality

Wednesday January 2, 2008
If both of your parents have Alzheimer's, how could you not wonder if you'll develop it as well? A recent New York Times article focused on the compounded hardship families face when both parents are affected and the fear among adult children that they're witnessing their own future.

While having one parent with Alzheimer's increases your own risk as much as threefold, researchers aren't sure how much a person's risk is raised if both parents have the disease.

If your fear has become reality by a recent diagnosis of Alzheimer's, your best defense is to arm yourself with knowledge about the disease so you know what to expect and can start planning for the future. For more information, see my article on Living With Alzheimer's.
