Valentine's Day Isn't Easy for Couples Affected By Alzheimer's

Thursday February 14, 2008
A recent article on CNN.com didn't mince words about the way Alzheimer's affects romantic relationships. The disease not only affects communication - it also influences intimacy and the way couples view their relationships. Many partnerships begin to deteriorate even before a formal diagnosis of Alzheimer's, because it's hard for caregivers to grasp what's happening to their loved ones.

Whatever your thoughts may be about Valentine's Day, I recognize that the holiday may be bittersweet for many of you. I want to acknowledge this, because it's not often talked about between the barrage of advertisements for chocolate and flowers. If you need someone to talk to, or simply need to remind yourself that you're not alone in this journey, I encourage you to visit the forum - a welcome place to share your thoughts and feelings.
