Etanercept Treatment Garners More Attention

Tuesday April 8, 2008
Illustration © Alzheimer's Disease Education and Referral CenterPerispinal administration of etanercept as a treatment for Alzheimer's is garnering more attention in scientific circles. A review of the case study documenting the treatment's success recently appeared in Nature Clinical Practice Neurology, a division of the journal Nature.

Although etanercept is not FDA-approved for the treatment of Alzheimer's and is not covered by insurance, it is available at the Institute for Neurological Research in Los Angeles. Some families who have taken loved ones to the clinic and have witnessed positive results are posting videos of their relatives on YouTube. If you view the before-and-after videos of Leo and Rose, please share your impressions by posting a comment to this blog or by starting a new thread in the forum.

This video shows great promise, but does anyone know if this research is applicable to corticobasal degeneration?

Amazing video! Does anyone know of any doctors on the East coast using this therapy?

Thank you for all of your comments.

In response to Kathy: As far as I’m aware, the reported research has focused on Alzheimer’s disease. However, the INR website (www.nrimed.com) indicates that it also receives referrals for those who are experiencing frontotemporal dementia, of which corticobasal degeneration is one form.

In response to Pat: According to INR’s website (www.nrimed.com), “The INR® has successfully implemented a physician training program for those licensed physicians who are interested in learning how to perform and manage anti-TNF treatment of Alzheimer’s disease…Trained physicians have been using the patented Tobinick Method™ at their own clinics.” It provides an email address to get more information: nrimed@gmail.com

One of the videos referenced in this article is of my father, Leo. He continues to do well. We feel he improved for several weeks after the first injection and has held steady since that time. I’m posting because other have questioned the veracity of the videos, even suggesting that ventriloquism is involved! This is certainly NOT the case and if anyone has any questions, feel free to contact me directly about it. biblecat@sbcglobal.net
