Did You Participate In Memory Walk This Year?

Memory Walks are held between September and November each year in hundreds of communities across the United States. This year, there was even a Memory Walk in Iraq organized by U.S. troops!

Were you one of the 200,000+ people who participated in a Memory Walk this year? I participated in my eighth straight Memory Walk last weekend, and the experience just keeps getting better each year. If you were part of a Memory Walk this fall, tell me about it by posting a comment to this blog.

If Memory Walk isn't your kind of thing, keep in mind that there are lots of ways to make a difference in the lives of families affected by Alzheimer's disease. For ideas, see my article on Volunteering for Alzheimer's.

I work with Homewatch CareGivers which offers full-service, in-home care in over 100 US locations and our offices and our home office support The Memory Walk. In several of our locations, over 60 percent of our clients have Alzheimer’s and we also have a unique, trademarked cognitive expercise program, Pathways to Memory, which over the past two years has helped hundreds of family members–loved ones with dementia and early onset Alzheimer’s have shown 23 to 57% improvement in MMSE and 7-Minute Scan tests after participating in these cognitive exercises. Caregivers to Alzheimer’s patients have greater hardships but please let them know there is hope and resources exist to give them respite. Thank you.

Hi Carrie,
Proud to say it was my first Memory Walk Event. I was touched by the “family” feel. I have a father-in-law with Alzheimer’s. It was nice to see the support from all those touched by the disease. Look forward to many more events and working with you.

Warmly,
Mitzi
