Definition:
A cortical dementia that results in significant impairment of memory, thinking, decision making, attention, reasoning and ability (cognition). For a diagnosis of Alzheimers disease to be made a prominent impairment in memory has to be present in the individual with at least one of the following: aphasia, apraxia, agnosia and disturbance in executive functioning. Also referred to as dementia of the Alzheimers type.
