Please note that this is a personal story submitted by an About.com reader.
My mother had a stroke in 1990 and and that was when she got Alzheimer's Disease. My dad had been taking care of her when the doctor made the diagnosis in 1995,that she had Alzheimer's Disease. My dad was hurt when he found out. He then had to take care of her for four years, and it was getting to be a burden on him.
Then in 1999 my wife and I and our daughter moved from Seattle, WA. My parent let us stay with them, until we found place in 2000. I can tell you it was hard for my family living in their basement. for a whole years, it was hard on me because my mother had Alzheimer's Disease. I couldn't let that get me down, I had go with our life. But finally a hospice came to my dad's rescue. They used some red tape to get my mother into a nursing home for Alzheimer's patients. They found a home called Sunshine Garden in Spokane, WA. She enrolled in 2001, you could not ask for a better nursing home to take care of my mother, it was a release to my dad.
I visited everyday to see how she was doing. They told my dad and I she wasn't getting any better. She passed away December 22, 2003, one day after my dad's birthday, December 21, and 3 days before Christmas.
But she is in a better place now, she joins her father, mother and brother. She has a sister who is still alive and living in Florida. My sister and I were very hurt when our mother passed away, we were very close to our mother.
This is about all I can think of for now. Oh, my dad is going on with his life now and he is doing good for now. They had been married for 54 years, I am the oldest in our family, I have two brothers and two sisters.
Thank you for your time to let me tell you my story
