In order to choose the best healthcare providers and/or facilities, you need to start by understanding the different types of provision.

Types of healthcare facilities
Healthcare and healthcare facilities vary according to need, costs, specialization and location. The basic forms of provision are:

  • In-home care

  • Respite Care

  • Retirement Housing/Supported Housing

  • Nursing Home Facilities

  • Hospice Care
  • Further healthcare facility considerations

    Get your wishes understood.
If you are planning for the future or considering changes where you live make sure that your needs and preferences for care are understood. Tell a family member, a trusted friend or a legal representative what you think is best for you.

    Costs.
Depending on the services, standards, and location the costs for each type of care can vary considerably.
Paying for care depends on your own circumstances. e.g. through private income or health insurance. Financial assistance may be available through state or federal programs (e.g. Medicaid or the Veterans Administration).
