Definition: An impaired ability to recognize or identify objects, even though sensory abilities are intact.
Examples: A person with Alzheimer's might have good vision, but isn't able to correctly identify a lamp. The person might have adequate tactile sensation (touch), but can't identify a coin by touch alone when placed in the hand. Agnosia can lead to the inability to recognize family members or even one's own reflection in the mirror.
