Environment is crucial in determining our behaviour. For people with Alzheimers these factors are particularly important. The environment may be boring, un-stimulating and lonely. The self stimulatory hypothesis suggests because people have to have certain levels of stimulation they may respond by acting with challenging ways to get it. Conversely, and particularly as Alzheimer's progresses, the world may appear overwhelming, confusing and complex.
